Exclusive Supporters Live Event July 11th at 19:30 IST/GMT, 14:30 EST, 11:30 PST
The third of our 2024 Online Hedge School events exclusive to our kind Supporters will cover the history, the flavours, and the future of peated malt in Ireland. Picking up the baton from our previous poitín Hedgeschool, we’ll be tracing peat’s aromas from illicit malts of Inishowen through its bog-muddled history in commercial Irish whiskey to its revival (and the stakes thereof) in contemporary Irish spirits.
We’ll be deep diving into material descriptions in excise reports. We’ll be deep diving into peat’s materiality with our friend, peatland scientist turned whiskey writer Dr. Mike Billett. And we’ll be deep diving into what can be done in Ireland with peat today with Sliabh Liag Distillers’ own James Doherty. Along the way, we’ll tell you all about our recent trip with Mike to the peatlands and distilleries of Donegal for Créatúr’s composition.
All in all, we’ve a lot of soggy ground to cover. Reprising his role as guest MC, Poitín Now’s own Francis Leavey will guide us on the night, interviewing Fionnán, Mike, and James and fielding questions from our dear supporters.
This live online event takes place on Thursday July 11th at
19:30 IST/GMT (Dublin/London), 14:30 EST (New York), 11:30 PST (LA)
